Pac-12 Reverses Course And Will Play Football This Fall

The Pacific-12 Conference announced they will be playing football this fall, just six weeks after they decided to postpone the season because of the coronavirus pandemic. The games will kick off on November 6, and each school will play seven games. The conference championship game will be held on December 18, allowing the schools to be eligible for the College Football Playoff selection process.

The Pac-12 did not release a full schedule but said that each team will play the five opponents in their division, plus one divisional crossover game. Teams that do not qualify for the conference championship game will play a school from the opposing division.

"From the beginning of this crisis, our focus has been on following the science, data, and counsel of our public health and infectious disease experts," Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said in a statement. "Our agreement with Quidel to provide daily rapid-results testing has been a game-changer in enabling us to move forward with confidence that we can create a safe environment for our student-athletes while giving them the opportunity to pursue their dreams. At the same time, we will continue to monitor health conditions and data and be ready to adjust as required in the name of the health of all."

The Pac-12 also said that men's and women's basketball can begin November 25. Winter sports are expected to start in accordance with their regular schedules.
